MINERAL BAR
North Fork of the American River
February 9, 1870: "Supervisor Proceedings - - February Term: Toll rates fixed at Mineral Bar Bridge against protest of Charles Rice, on behalf of Company." (Auburn Placer Herald)
June 12, 1875: "The new bridge across the North Fork of the American river, at what is familiarly known as Rice's crossing on the road from Colfax to Iowa Hill, is all completed. It is said to be a fine structure, built with all the modern improvements for safety and durability. The owners of this road have manifested commendable grit and energy, in keeping it open to travel in spite of the loss of their old bridge and other damage by the floods last winter. In a very short time after the bridge went, a ferry boat was put on the crossing, and now after the lapse of only a few months, all damage is not only made good, but both the road and bridge are better than ever."
