(ROCKY HONCUT CREEK)
Rocky Honcut Creek
November 14, 1902: "Elisha Grubbs is at present painting the covered bridge on the road to Bangor." (Oroville Daily Register)
December 15, 1905: "The large covered bridge across the Honcut near Wyandotte was taken apart for repair last week, making travel scarce for the week." (Oroville Daily Register)
October 30, 1913: "A further change in plans of the new Oroville-Bangor cut-off is contemplated, and surveyors are soon to be in the field to determine the feasibility and the practicability of the change. It is proposed to swing the route at the easterly end, to eliminate, if possible, the heavy grade on the Bangor side of the covered bridge. If that is done, it will necessitate either moving the present bridge or, more probably, the construction of a new bridge." (Oroville Daily Register)
July 8, 1914: "The contract for the construction of a reinforced concrete bridge over Rocky Honcut Creek, on the new Bangor-Oroville road, was let yesterday by the Board of Supervisors to O.A. Peter. Mr. Peter was the lowest of three bidders. The bids submitted were as follows: O.A. Peter, $823.91; Jenkins and Wells of Sacramento, $1,092; Jenken and Holmes of Chico, $1,349.40.
Work upon the bridge will begin at once. The structure when completed will take the place of the old covered bridge on the Oroville-Bangor road." (Oroville Daily Register)
September 11, 1916: "The extent of the property loss cannot be ascertained as yet. Hundreds of cords of wood have been destroyed. Many old buildings and cabins are reported lost. The covered bridge across Honcut Creek is reported to be burned." (Oroville Daily Register)
September 12, 1916: "Although burning in the direction of Hurleton, twelve miles from Oroville, the largest forest fire ever known in eastern Butte is thought to be under control after a strenuous fight by hundreds of men.
Butte county is loser by the burning of the covered bridge across the Rocky Honcut creek, between Wyandotte and Bangor, and the traveling public will be much inconvenienced by the loss of the bridge which was one of the oldest in the county." (Sacramento Union)
September 14, 1916: "The old covered bridge across Honcut creek was destroyed. The county carried $1,500 insurance on the structure." (Feather River Bulletin)
October 7, 1916: "The Board of Trustees have decided to repair the damage done to the covered bridge at Wyandotte during the recent forest fire. A check for $1000 covering the insurance upon the bridge has been received by the Board of Supervisors." (Oroville Daily Register)
April 4, 1935: "Old fruit trees, century plants and cactus, rose bushes and old wells are all that are left, in many instances, to show where ranch homes used to be. Many were destroyed by fire, A few planks are all that show where the old covered bridge used to be," (Oroville Mercury Register)
